Snow Joe cordless snow shovels may use either the 24V IONMAX battery system or the newer 20V ECOSHARP X20 battery system.
These battery systems use different chargers, so always check your complete snow shovel model before selecting a charger.
First, Identify Your Battery System
| Battery System | Snow Shovel Examples | Charging |
|---|---|---|
| 24V IONMAX | 24V-SS10, 24V-SS11-XR, and 24V-SS13 | Uses an approved 24V IONMAX charger. |
| 20V ECOSHARP X20 | X20-SNOW-5A and X20-SS12-4A | Uses the compatible 20V ECOSHARP charger specified for the X20 battery. |
20V ECOSHARP X20 and 24V IONMAX batteries and chargers are not interchangeable.

20V ECOSHARP 5.0 Ah
The X20-SNOW-5A kit includes a 5.0 Ah battery and compatible charger.
The product page lists a maximum charge time of 6–7 hours.
20V ECOSHARP 4.0 Ah

Example Snow Shovel Charge Times
Charge time depends on the exact battery, charger, and snow shovel configuration.

Will My Older ICHRG24-AC Plug-In Charger Work?
If you have an older ICHRG24-AC plug-in charger, do not assume that it is compatible with a newer battery simply because both are part of the 24V family.
For current 24V IONMAX batteries, use a charger specifically listed as compatible with your battery.
The current 24VCHRG-QC product information lists compatibility with all current IONMAX battery models and also lists backwards compatibility with iBAT24-LTE, iBAT24-LT, and iBAT24-XR.
If your battery model is different, check the battery or product manual before choosing a charger.
This ICHRG24-AC guidance applies to the 24V battery system only. It does not apply to 20V ECOSHARP X20 snow shovels.
What Do the 24V Charger Lights Mean?
Approved 24V snow shovel manuals show the following status indicators when using compatible 24V chargers:
- Red: the battery is charging.
- Green: the battery is fully charged.
For example, the 24V-SS13 manual states that the charger light turns red while the battery is charging and green when the battery is fully charged.
Charging indicators can vary by charger. Follow the instructions for the exact charger supplied with or approved for your battery.
When Charging Is Complete
Approved 24V snow shovel manuals instruct customers to remove the battery from the charger when charging is complete.
- Do not leave the battery connected to the charger after charging is complete when the manual instructs you to disconnect it.
- Unplug the charger when it is not in use.
- Recharge the battery when you notice a drop in the snow shovel's power.
- Do not allow the battery to become completely discharged.
Charging in Cold Weather
The 24V snow shovel manuals instruct customers not to charge the battery outdoors in freezing weather.
Allow the battery to charge within the temperature range specified in the operator's manual. A battery that is too hot or too cold may take longer to charge or may temporarily pause charging until its temperature returns to the acceptable range.
