If your Snow Joe cordless snow shovel will not turn on, first confirm that you are using the correct battery system, that the battery is charged and securely installed, and that you are following the correct starting sequence for your model.
Confirm the Correct Battery System
Snow Joe cordless snow shovels are available on different battery platforms.
Models such as the 24V-SS10, 24V-SS12, and 24V-SS13 use the 24V IONMAX battery system.
X20-SNOW models use the 20V ECOSHARP battery system and are not compatible with 24V IONMAX batteries or chargers.
What Should I Check If the Unit Won’t Turn On?
-
Confirm the Battery Is Charged
Check the battery charge before attempting to start the snow shovel. Recharge the battery if needed using the charger specified for your battery system.
-
Remove + Visually Inspect the Battery
With the snow shovel turned off, remove the battery and visually inspect the battery pack for signs of damage.
Do not use a battery that is cracked, swollen, deformed, has suffered a severe impact, or otherwise appears damaged.
-
Check the Battery Area for Visible Damage
With the battery removed, visually inspect the battery compartment and surrounding area for obvious damage before reinstalling the battery.
Do not touch, bend, adjust, or attempt to repair the battery terminals or electrical contacts.
-
Reinstall the Battery Securely
On 24V IONMAX cordless snow shovel models, slide the battery into the battery compartment until it clicks and locks into position.
A battery that is not fully seated may prevent proper operation.
-
Use the Correct Starting Sequence
On applicable 24V IONMAX snow shovel models, press and hold the safety lock switch, then squeeze the trigger or ON/OFF switch.
Once the snow shovel starts, release the safety lock switch while continuing to hold the trigger or ON/OFF switch.
Do not bypass the safety switch. The safety switch is part of the normal starting procedure for applicable 24V cordless snow shovel models.
What If the Battery Is Charged but It Still Won’t Start?
If the battery is charged, make sure it is fully seated in the battery compartment and that you are using the correct safety lock + trigger starting sequence for your model.
If the battery or product shows visible signs of damage, do not continue using the damaged component.
The battery protection system may shut the snow shovel off if the battery is overloaded or overheats.
If the protective cutoff has activated, do not repeatedly attempt to restart the machine. Allow the battery to cool to room temperature before recharging it.
Using an X20-SNOW Cordless Snow Shovel?
X20-SNOW models use a 20V ECOSHARP rechargeable battery.
A 24V IONMAX battery or charger is not compatible with the X20-SNOW platform.
Follow the starting instructions in the operator's manual for your exact X20-SNOW model.
