Before You Begin
Check the carton for these components:
- Portable propane generator
- Two feet and four sets of foot bolts and nuts
- Two wheels, two wheel axles, two wheel covers, and two sets of wheel washers and nuts
- Handle lock pin
- Propane connecting hose and cylinder strap
- Funnel
- Tool kit (Phillips screwdriver, spark plug wrench and spark plug wrench handle)
- Operator's manual and registration card
Safety first: Assemble the generator with the engine off and cool, outdoors or in a well-ventilated work area, and with the propane cylinder disconnected. Never run a generator indoors, in a garage, or near windows, doors or vents: exhaust contains deadly carbon monoxide. Do not add engine lubricant until the feet and wheels have been installed.
Assemble Your Generator
-
Install the First Foot
Carefully raise the end of the generator near the recoil starter to access the underside of the frame. Align a foot's bolts and holes with the frame mounting holes. Insert the bolts through the frame and secure with the supplied nuts (Fig. 3).
-
Install the Second Foot
Repeat the same procedure for the second foot. Confirm both feet are firmly attached and the generator rests securely.
-
Install the First Wheel
Carefully raise the end of the frame near the handle. Pass a wheel axle through the center of a wheel, slide a washer onto the axle, then insert the axle into the wheel mounting hole. Fasten with the supplied nut and tighten securely (Fig. 4).
-
Attach the Wheel Cover and Repeat
Align the four tabs of the wheel cover with the slots in the wheel and press firmly until secured (Fig. 5). Repeat the wheel and cover installation on the other side.
-
Secure the Handle Lock Pin
Insert the handle lock pin into the handle hole only far enough that the pin's threads do not extend into the handle frame (Fig. 6). Hold the pin in place and use a wrench to turn its nut clockwise to secure it (Fig. 7).
-
Check Handle Movement
Pull the lock-pin ring to unlock the handle. Rotate it upward to the transporting position, then release the ring to lock it. To fold it for storage, pull the ring again, rotate the handle downward and release to lock (Fig. 8).
Important: Never lift the generator by the handle assembly. If lifting is necessary, grasp the frame and use appropriate lifting assistance and technique.
Propane Cylinder Setup: Important Precautions
Propane connection is a separate safety-critical part of preparation. Follow the Connecting/Installing the Propane Cylinder section of the operator's manual (Figs. 13–16 and subsequent instructions) before attempting to start the generator.
- Use only a compatible propane cylinder and the supplied connecting hose; inspect the hose and fittings for damage before use.
- With the cylinder valve fully off, connect the hose securely to the generator's propane inlet as specified in the manual (Fig. 14).
- Lower the cylinder bracket, position the cylinder securely and fasten it with the supplied cylinder strap (Fig. 15).
- Follow the manual's cylinder connection and leak-test procedure. Never test for leaks with a flame.
- If you see bubbles during a leak test, or smell or hear escaping gas, do not operate the generator. Move away and contact the gas supplier or fire department as directed in the manual.
Final Assembly Check
Confirm both feet, both wheels, wheel covers and the handle lock pin are firmly secured. Inspect for loose, missing or damaged parts before each use. Review the manual for engine oil requirements, battery charging, grounding, propane safety, starting instructions and electrical load limits before operating.
Generator placement: Operate outdoors only, away from occupied buildings and openings. Never connect the generator directly to household wiring; a qualified electrician must install any approved transfer-switch connection.
