Before Starting the Generator
Carbon monoxide danger: Never operate the generator inside a home, garage, crawlspace, or other enclosed or partially enclosed area.
Use the generator outdoors only and at least 20 feet away from windows, doors, and vents. Always place the generator on a flat, firm surface.
If you smell propane: close the propane cylinder valve. If the odor continues, keep away from the generator and contact your propane supplier or fire department.
Do not operate the generator if a propane leak is present.
How to Start the SJG4100LP Using Electric Start
-
Place the Generator on a Level Surface
With the engine off, place the generator on a flat, level surface and check the engine lubricant level.
The generator may not start or may shut down during operation if it is not positioned level.
-
Disconnect All Electrical Loads
Make sure nothing is plugged into any of the generator outlets before starting the engine.
-
Install the Battery
Open the storage compartment and insert the 24V iON+ battery into the battery compartment.
-
Open the Propane Cylinder Valve
Confirm that the propane cylinder has been properly tested, installed, and leak-tested. Then open the cylinder valve completely.
-
Move the Engine Switch to ON
Press the engine switch to the ON position.
-
Move the Choke to START
Move the choke lever all the way to the LEFT into the START position.
-
Start the Engine
Press the engine switch to the START position.
-
Move the Choke to RUN
Allow the engine to run for 15 to 30 seconds. Then move the choke lever all the way to the RIGHT into the RUN position.
If electric start does not work: the battery may need to be charged. The SJG4100LP can also be started using the recoil starter.
How to Start the SJG4100LP Using the Recoil Starter
-
Complete the Initial Start-Up Checks
Follow the same preparation steps used for electric start: check the oil level, disconnect all electrical loads, confirm the propane cylinder is properly installed and leak-tested, open the cylinder valve completely, move the engine switch to ON, and move the choke lever fully LEFT to START.
-
Pull the Recoil Starter
Grasp the recoil starter grip and pull it. Continue pulling until the engine starts.
Do not allow the recoil grip to snap back after starting. Return it gently to its original position.
-
Move the Choke to RUN
Allow the engine to run for 15 to 30 seconds, then move the choke lever all the way RIGHT to the RUN position.
After the Generator Starts
Allow the generator to warm up with nothing connected for 2 to 3 minutes before adding electrical loads.
