If your Sun Joe cordless tiller + cultivator will not turn on, first check the battery charge, battery installation, and starting sequence for your exact model.
Cordless tiller models use different battery configurations, so always follow the instructions for your complete model number.
Check Your Battery Configuration
Battery requirements vary by model.
The 24V-TLR-LTE uses 1 × 24V IONMAX battery.
The 24V-X2-TLR14 uses 2 × 24V IONMAX batteries together for 48V maximum system power.
Make sure all batteries required by your model are installed before attempting to start the tiller + cultivator.
What Should I Check?
-
Check the Battery Charge
Use the battery charge indicator to confirm that the battery or batteries have sufficient charge.
If the battery is low, charge it with the compatible 24V IONMAX charger before attempting to operate the unit.
-
Remove + Visually Inspect the Battery
Turn the tiller + cultivator off and remove the battery or batteries.
Visually inspect the battery pack and product for signs of wear or damage. Do not use the product or battery if it is damaged or shows excessive wear.
-
Do Not Adjust the Battery Terminals
Do not touch, bend, reposition, or attempt to repair the battery poles or electrical terminals.
The operator's manual specifically warns against touching the battery poles and against using a damaged or modified battery.
-
Reinstall the Battery Securely
Reinstall the battery according to your model's instructions.
On the 24V-TLR-LTE, slide the battery into the battery compartment until it clicks and locks into position.
On the 24V-X2-TLR14, slide both batteries into the battery compartment until they click into position, then close the battery compartment cover.
-
Use the Correct Starting Sequence
Press and hold the safety lock, then squeeze the ON/OFF trigger or switch.
Once the tiller + cultivator is running, release the safety lock while continuing to hold the ON/OFF control.
-
Check the Tilling Blades
Turn the unit off, remove the battery or batteries, and wait for the blades to come to a complete stop before inspecting the unit.
Make sure the blades are clear and can rotate freely. Soil, foliage, or other debris accumulated around the blades can impair performance or damage the motor.
What If the Battery Is Charged but the Unit Still Won’t Turn On?
If the battery is charged, confirm that it is fully installed and locked into position, then retry the correct safety lock + ON/OFF control starting sequence.
For a two-battery model such as the 24V-X2-TLR14, make sure both required batteries are installed.
Do not continue operating a damaged product or battery. Do not modify or attempt to repair the battery pack or electrical connections.
What If the Unit Stopped During Use?
The battery system includes a protective cutoff. If the battery experiences an overload or overheats, the protective cutoff can switch the equipment off.
If this happens, do not continue pressing the ON/OFF control, as doing so may damage the battery.
Still Won’t Turn On?
