If your Sun Joe 24V-X2-DTS15 cordless scarifier + dethatcher will not start, is not reaching full power, or is not producing the expected results, use the troubleshooting guidance below.
This unit uses 2 × 24V IONMAX batteries to provide 48V maximum system power.
Won’t Start?
Check both batteries, then make sure the safety lock is used before the switch lever.
Low Power?
Check the battery charge and make sure the air vents are clear.
Poor Results?
Check the cutting cylinder, material being processed, and selected working depth.
The Motor Will Not Start
-
Check Both Batteries
Open the battery compartment and make sure both 24V batteries are installed.
Insert each battery until it clicks into place, then close the battery compartment cover.
-
Check the Battery Charge
If the batteries are discharged, charge them before attempting to operate the unit again.
-
Use the Correct Starting Sequence
Press and hold the safety lock button, then pull the switch lever bar toward you.
Once the machine starts, release the safety lock button and continue holding the switch lever bar during operation.
To stop the scarifier + dethatcher, release the switch lever bar.
Before starting the unit, make sure the scarifier + dethatcher is not in contact with foreign objects. Keep hands and feet away from the rotating cylinder and ejector opening.
The Unit Does Not Reach Full Power
-
Recharge the Batteries
The operator's manual lists batteries that are almost discharged as a possible cause of reduced power.
Charge the batteries before continuing operation.
-
Check the Air Vents
Blocked air vents can also prevent the product from reaching full power.
Make sure the air vents are clean and free of blockage.
The Dethatching or Scarifying Results Are Unsatisfactory
-
Check the Cutting Device
A worn cutting device can reduce performance.
If the tine cylinder is worn, replace it according to the instructions in the operator's manual.
-
Check the Material Being Scarified
Do not attempt to process material that exceeds the capacity of the scarifier + dethatcher.
-
Check the Working Depth
An incorrect scarifying or raking depth can produce poor results.
Adjust the depth using the 5-position depth adjustment for the job you are performing.
Scarifying + Dethatching Depth
The 24V-X2-DTS15 has a 5-position depth control.
The official product specifications list a scarifying range of -0.375 in. to 0.2 in. and a dethatching/raking range of -0.18 in. to 0.4 in..
Turn the unit off and remove both batteries before adjusting the cylinder depth.
Which Cylinder Should I Use?
The 24V-X2-DTS15 is a 2-in-1 scarifier + dethatcher and includes separate cylinders for each function.
The dethatching cylinder uses spring steel tines for thatch pickup, while the scarifying cylinder is designed to cut into the lawn and soil surface.
Before Inspecting or Adjusting the Unit
Remove both batteries before cleaning, inspecting, adjusting, changing the cylinder, or performing maintenance on the scarifier + dethatcher.
