The Sun Joe 24V-X2-DTS15 Cordless Dethatcher + Scarifier uses two 24V IONMAX lithium-ion batteries.
The current 24V-X2-DTS15 kit includes two 4.0 Ah batteries and a dual-port charger.
Which Charger Does My Unit Use?
The approved product information and operator's manual identify compatible 24V IONMAX charging options for the 24V-X2-DTS15.
| Charger | Type | Use |
|---|---|---|
| 24VCHRG-DPC | Dual-Port Charger | Provides two charging ports for the two 24V batteries used by the dethatcher + scarifier. The current kit includes a dual-port charger. |
| 24VCHRG-QC | 24V IONMAX Quick Charger | Listed in the operator's manual as a compatible quick-charging option for the 24V battery system. |
Is There a Faster Charger?
The approved operator's manual lists the 24VCHRG-QC as a 24V IONMAX Lithium-Ion Battery Quick Charger.
The current 24V-X2-DTS15 kit already includes a dual-port charger, which allows the two batteries used by the unit to be connected for charging.
Charging time can vary depending on the batteries and their temperature. Follow the charging instructions for the battery and charger being used.
What About My Older ICHRG24-AC Plug-In Charger?
The older ICHRG24-AC is not listed as a charging option in the current approved 24V-X2-DTS15 product information or operator's manual.
For the 24V-X2-DTS15, use a compatible 24V IONMAX charger listed for the unit and battery rather than assuming that an older plug-in charger is compatible.
How Do I Charge the Batteries?
-
Remove the Batteries from the Unit
Open the battery compartment cover and use the push lock buttons to remove the battery packs from the dethatcher + scarifier.
-
Insert the Batteries into the Charger
Insert the battery pack into the compatible 24V IONMAX charger until it is properly seated.
-
Check the Charging Indicators
The battery indicator LEDs illuminate one by one during the charging process.
The approved 24V chargers also use charging indicator lights: red indicates charging and green indicates fully charged.
-
Disconnect the Charger When Charging Is Complete
When all three battery LEDs are illuminated, charging is complete.
Unplug the charger from the electrical outlet before removing the batteries from the charger.
Do not leave the batteries in the charger after charging is complete.
The operator's manual states that the charger does not automatically turn off when the batteries are fully charged. Switch off or unplug the charger when charging is complete.
What Do the Charger Lights Mean?
| Charger Light | Status | What It Means |
|---|---|---|
| Red | Charging | The battery is within the normal charging temperature range and is charging. |
| Green | Fully charged or temperature outside charging range | Check the battery indicator LEDs. The manual also explains that a hot or cold battery may temporarily show a green charger indicator while charging is paused until the battery returns to the acceptable temperature range. |
When Should I Recharge the Batteries?
- Recharge the battery packs when you notice a drop in the dethatcher + scarifier's power.
- The batteries do not need to be fully discharged before charging.
- Do not allow the battery packs to become completely discharged.
