The Sun Joe AJ801E Electric Scarifier + Dethatcher requires assembly of the handle bars, extension-cord restraint holder, cable clips, and thatch collection bag before operation.

Before You Begin
Safety first: Do not connect the AJ801E to the power supply until assembly is complete. Connecting the unit before it is fully assembled could result in accidental starting and serious injury.
Always wear gloves during assembly.
Parts Used During Assembly
How to Assemble the AJ801E Handle

Install the Lower Handle Bars
Insert the two lower handle bars into the motor housing.

Secure the Lower Handle Bars
Secure the lower handle bars to the motor housing using the two Phillips screws.

Attach the Middle Handle Bars
Position the two middle handle bars against the lower handle bars. Secure them using the first set of handle knobs and bolts.
Tighten the knobs on both sides to ensure a secure fit.

Install the Extension-Cord Restraint Holder
Hang the extension-cord restraint holder on the upper handle before attaching the upper handle to the middle handle bars.

Attach the Upper Handle
Connect the upper handle to the two middle handle bars using the second set of handle knobs and bolts.
Tighten the knobs on both sides to ensure the handle is securely assembled.

Secure the Appliance Cord
Use the two supplied cable clips to secure the appliance cord to the middle and lower right handle bars.
How to Attach the Thatch Collection Bag
Before attaching the bag: Make sure the AJ801E is switched off and the cutting device has stopped rotating completely.
The manual states that the scarifier + dethatcher should not be operated without the thatch collection bag securely fitted.

Lift the Bag Cover
Lift the thatch collection bag cover at the rear of the machine.

Position the Collection Bag
Align the thatch collection bag with the mounting hooks located beneath the bag cover.

Hang the Bag on the Mounting Hooks
Hang the thatch collection bag securely onto the mounting hooks before operating the machine.
Assembly note: The AJ801E is supplied with the scarifying cylinder pre-assembled. The dethatcher cylinder is also included with the unit and can be installed when needed for dethatching operation.
