Troubleshooting Steps
-
Check the Outlet and Extension Cord
Confirm the chipper is connected to a working outlet. Inspect the extension cord and do not use it if it is cut, worn, or otherwise damaged. Use an outdoor-rated extension cord that meets the requirements in your model's manual.
-
Check the Model-Specific Safety Control
- CJ601E and CJ602E family: Make sure the hopper is completely closed and its locking knob is tightened. The motor will not run when the hopper safety lock is not engaged.
- CJ603E: Make sure the forward/reverse selector is not in its middle position. Select the forward position for normal chipping.
-
Clear Jammed Material
With the chipper switched off and unplugged, remove chips or other material blocking the feeding funnel or discharge area. Do not reach into either opening with your hands.
-
Reset the Overload Protection
Press the reset button, then wait at least one minute before trying to restart the unit. The overload protection can stop the motor when the chipper is clogged or overloaded.
-
Restart the Chipper
- CJ601E and CJ602E family: Reconnect the power and press the ON/OFF switch to restart.
- CJ603E: If material remains jammed, select reverse and press the ON button to back the material out. Switch the unit off before returning the selector to forward, then restart for normal operation.
If the Motor Still Does Not Run
Stop using the chipper if the cord or plug is damaged, the reset trips repeatedly, the motor produces an unusual sound, or the controls do not operate as described. Do not open the motor housing or attempt an electrical repair.
