Important safety recall: Certain Sun Joe 24V-X2-17LM and 24V-X2-17LM-CT mowers were recalled because the blade may detach unexpectedly. Stop using the mower and check its serial number against the official recall notice before proceeding. If your unit is affected, follow the manufacturer's recall instructions or contact Customer Care. View safety recall information.
Before You Begin
Have a 16 mm ratchet wrench, protective gloves, and eye protection ready.
Safety first: Turn off the mower, remove both battery packs and the safety key, and wait for the blade to stop completely. Never handle the blade while the mower is powered. The blade remains sharp when stationary.
How to Tighten the Mower Blade
-
Disconnect the Power
Make sure the mower is off, then remove both batteries and the safety key before inspecting the underside.
-
Position the Mower
Following the manufacturer's blade-tightening instructions, carefully turn the mower upside down on a stable surface to access the blade. Wear protective gloves.
-
Inspect the Blade Hardware
Check that the blade, plastic carrier, lock washer, and lug nut are present and correctly positioned. Do not operate the mower if any component is missing or damaged.
-
Tighten the Lug Nut
Place a 16 mm ratchet wrench on the blade lug nut. Turn it clockwise with one hand until it is snug against the lock washer and cannot be tightened further with that hand, as directed in the manufacturer's repair instructions. Keep your hands away from the cutting edges.
-
Complete the Final Check
Confirm that the blade and hardware are secure and undamaged. Carefully return the mower to its normal upright position and review the operator's manual before use.
Do not operate the mower if the blade remains loose, hardware is missing or damaged, or excessive vibration occurs. Contact Customer Care for guidance. Never substitute unapproved blade hardware.
