Follow the official assembly video and the instructions below to set up your Sun Joe 24V-X2-21LM 48V cordless lawn mower. Assemble the handle and select the appropriate grass-discharge attachment before using the mower.

Before You Begin
Check that the mower and assembly components are present and undamaged. The mower must be fully assembled before operation.
Important safety warning: Do not insert the batteries until assembly is complete. Remove both batteries and the safety key before making adjustments or performing maintenance. Never operate a partially assembled or damaged mower.
Assemble the Handle

Raise the Lower Handle
Lift the lower handle frame from its storage position to the desired height. Tighten the preassembled knobs to secure it (manual Fig. 5).

Attach the Upper Handle
Fit the upper handle frame onto the lower handle. Insert the provided latches through the washers and aligned holes, then secure them to the handle frame (manual Fig. 6).

Lock the Handle Latches
Flip up the latches to lock the upper handle in place (manual Fig. 7).

Secure the Cable
Use the supplied cable clips to secure the cable to the handle frame (manual Fig. 8).
Attach the Grass Collection Bag
Use the grass collection bag when you want to collect clippings.

Remove the Mulching Plug
Lift the rear ejector flap and remove the mulching plug from the rear discharge opening.

Hang the Grass Bag
Keep the ejector flap raised. Hold the bag by its handle and hook the ends of the support rod onto the hooks on both sides (manual Fig. 9).

Lower the Ejector Flap
Release the ejector flap so it rests on the grass collection bag (manual Fig. 10).
Optional: Fit the Side Discharge Chute
The manual recommends the side discharge chute when grass is too tall to mulch or when side discharge is preferred. Do not install the grass collection bag when using the side discharge chute.

Insert the Mulching Plug
Insert the mulching plug into the rear discharge opening.

Open the Side Discharge Door
Lift the side discharge door.

Attach the Chute
Align the grooves on the chute with the pins underneath the side discharge door, then hook the grooves onto the pins (manual Fig. 11).

Close the Door
Release the side discharge door over the chute.
Optional: Set Up for Mulching
To mulch clippings, lift the rear ejector flap and insert the mulching plug fully into the rear discharge opening. Make sure the plug is securely seated (manual Fig. 12). Do not attach the grass collection bag or side discharge chute when using the mulching plug for mulching.
Final Assembly Check
Before using the mower, confirm that the handle knobs and latches are secured, the cable is clipped to the handle, and your chosen grass collection or discharge setup is correctly fitted. Keep the batteries and safety key removed until assembly and adjustments are finished.
