If your Sun Joe cordless trimmer + edger will not turn on, first check the battery charge, battery installation, and starting controls.
The exact controls can vary by model, so follow the operator's manual for your complete model number.
What Should I Check?
-
Check the Battery Charge
Confirm that the battery has sufficient charge before attempting to start the trimmer + edger.
If the battery is discharged, charge it according to the instructions for your battery + charger.
-
Reinstall the Battery
Remove and reinstall the battery in the battery compartment.
On models such as the 24V-ST14B, slide the battery into the compartment until it snaps into position.
-
Make Sure the Battery Is Secure
Before starting the trimmer, confirm that the battery pack is fully secured to the tool.
-
Use the Correct Starting Sequence
On models such as the 24V-ST14B, press and hold the safety lock button, then squeeze the ON/OFF trigger switch.
Once the tool powers on, release the safety lock button and continue holding the trigger.
-
Check the Starting Controls for Your Model
Some cordless trimmer + edger models use a safety lock switch rather than a push-button safety lock.
For example, the 24V-LT12-LTE manual instructs users to slide the safety lock switch upward and then squeeze the ON/OFF trigger.
The safety lock is designed to help prevent accidental starting. The trimmer will not follow the approved start sequence unless the safety control is engaged before the trigger.
Battery System
Current Sun Joe cordless trimmers + edgers include models in the 24V IONMAX system.
Battery capacity can vary by model. For example, current Shop Joe product pages include cordless trimmer + edger products supplied with 2.0 Ah and 4.0 Ah 24V batteries.
Before Starting the Trimmer
Make sure the cutting head is not contacting any object before starting the unit.
For models with an adjustable or folding shaft, make sure the shaft is properly locked according to the operator's manual before attempting to start the trimmer.
What About the Battery Prongs?
The trimmer + edger operator's manuals do not instruct customers to inspect, bend, reposition, or adjust individual battery prongs as a no-start troubleshooting step.
Instead, make sure the battery is charged, fully seated, and that the correct safety-lock + trigger sequence is being used.
Still Won’t Start?
If the battery is charged and securely installed, the correct starting sequence is being used, and the unit still will not turn on, contact Shop Joe Customer Support. Have your complete model number and serial number available.
