The Sun Joe HJ605CC 2-in-1 Cordless Grass Shear + Hedge Trimmer can be disconnected from its optional telescoping pole without opening the telescopic-lock housing or removing its internal components.
Safety first: Make sure the power ON/OFF switches on both the trimmer and telescoping pole are in the OFF position before disconnecting the tool.
Wait for the cutting blades to come to a complete stop before handling or adjusting the unit.
How to Disconnect the HJ605CC from the Telescoping Pole
-
Turn the Tool Off
Make sure the grass shear + hedge trimmer and the telescoping-pole controls are both in the OFF position.
-
Unplug the Connecting Cord
Locate the connecting cord where it plugs into the telescoping pole socket on the handle of the grass shear + hedge trimmer.
Unplug the connecting cord from the socket.
-
Press the Cutting-Head Lock
Press and hold the cutting-head lock located on the pole head.
-
Remove the Trimmer from the Pole Head
While holding the cutting-head lock, pull the grass shear + hedge trimmer out of the opening in the pole head.
The operator's manual shows this removal process in Figure 14: unplug the connecting cord, press the cutting-head lock, then slide the grass shear + hedge trimmer away from the pole head.
How to Shorten the Telescoping Pole for Storage
If your goal is to make the HJ605CC more compact for storage, the manual provides a pole-length adjustment rather than an internal disassembly procedure.
-
Open the Telescopic Lock
Flip the telescopic lock upward to loosen the pole.
-
Shorten the Pole
Push the lower pole inward until it reaches the desired length.
-
Secure the Pole
Push the telescopic lock back down to secure the pole at the selected length.
If the telescopic lock is too tight to allow adjustment, the manual states that the cam-lock nut may be loosened slightly using pliers or a hex key wrench as needed.
Do I Need to Open the Telescopic-Lock Housing?
No customer disassembly procedure for the telescopic-lock housing is provided in the HJ605CC operator's manual.
The manual does not instruct users to remove the housing screws, separate the lock housing, or move an internal ratchet mechanism. For normal removal and storage, use the approved disconnect and telescoping-pole procedures above.
Before Storing the HJ605CC
If the tool will be stored for an extended period, the operator's manual recommends the following:
- Fully charge the battery.
- Clean the tool.
- Install the blade covers over the cutting blades.
- Store the tool in a secure, dry location.
- Keep the storage temperature between 41°F (5°C) and 104°F (40°C).
- Fully recharge the battery before using the tool again after prolonged storage.
The manual also instructs users to keep the blades clean and free of debris and to apply a small amount of suitable lubricant to the blades to maintain cutting performance.
