If your Sun Joe SBJ597E Compact Electric Leaf Blower does not start when the switch is turned on, check the power connection and household circuit breaker first.
What Should I Check?
-
Check the Power Connection
Make sure the blower's power cord is connected securely to the extension cord and that the extension cord is connected to the power source.
The SBJ597E manual lists an unplugged or loose power connection as a possible cause when the motor will not start.
-
Make Sure the Connection Is Firm
Firmly and fully connect the appliance plug to the extension cord. Do not use an extension cord that creates a loose connection.
A loose electrical connection can result in overheating and fire.
-
Inspect the Extension Cord
Check the extension cord for damage or excessive wear before use.
Do not operate the blower with a damaged extension cord. Replace a damaged cord before using the unit.
-
Check the Household Circuit Breaker
Check whether the household circuit breaker supplying the outlet has tripped.
The operator's manual identifies a tripped household circuit breaker as the second possible cause when the motor will not start.
-
Confirm the Switch Is in the ON Position
Once the power connection is secure, slide the ON/OFF switch to the “I” position to start the blower.
Use the Correct Extension Cord
The SBJ597E requires an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. The manual also specifies the minimum wire gauge based on cord length.
| Extension Cord Length | Minimum Wire Gauge |
|---|---|
| Up to 50 ft (15 m) | 16 AWG |
| More than 50 ft up to 100 ft (15–30 m) | 14 AWG |
Do not use an extension cord longer than 100 ft (30 m). An undersized extension cord can cause a drop in line voltage, resulting in loss of power and overheating.
The manual specifies an outdoor extension cord such as SW-A, SOW-A, STW-A, STOW-A, SJW-A, SJOW-A, SJTW-A, or SJTOW-A.
What If the Blower Still Does Not Start?
If the power connection is secure and the household circuit breaker is not tripped, but the blower still will not start, do not open or attempt to repair the motor or electrical components yourself.
The operator's manual states that a machine that cannot be controlled with its switch must be repaired.
