If your Snow Joe ASHJ201 or ASHJ202E Electric Ash Vacuum will not start, check the power connection, ON/OFF switch, pleated filter, and wire filter basket before trying the unit again.
Before You Begin
Safety first: Switch the ash vacuum OFF and disconnect it from the power supply before inspecting, adjusting, or reinstalling the filters.
Do not use the unit with a damaged power cord or extension cord.
What Can Prevent the Ash Vacuum from Starting?
How to Check an ASHJ201 or ASHJ202E That Won’t Start
-
Disconnect the Ash Vacuum
Set the ON/OFF switch to the OFF position and unplug the ash vacuum before inspecting the unit.
-
Check the Power Connection
Confirm that the power cord is connected to a working 120 V, 60 Hz outlet.
Inspect the plug, cord, and extension cord for visible damage. If electrical damage is found, do not continue using the unit.
-
Check the Pleated Filter
Remove the container lid and make sure the pleated filter is installed correctly on the motor and filter housing underneath the lid.
The rubber rim of the pleated filter should sit flush against the container lid.
-
Check the Wire Filter Basket
Fit the wire filter basket over the pleated filter and turn it clockwise until it stops.
Make sure the wire filter basket tabs are positioned under the metal retainer clips. The basket tabs must cover and depress the safety stop switch.
-
Reassemble the Vacuum
Place the container lid onto the metal container and secure it using the seal clips.
-
Reconnect Power and Switch the Unit On
Plug the power cord into a working outlet, then set the ON/OFF switch to the ON position marked “–”.
Why the filter installation matters: Both models use a safety stop switch that allows the motor to operate only when the required filter components are installed correctly.
What If the Ash Vacuum Still Won’t Start?
If the power supply is working, the unit is switched ON, and the pleated filter and wire filter basket are correctly installed but the vacuum still does not start, the manual identifies a defective ON/OFF switch or defective motor as possible causes.
Do not attempt to repair the switch or motor yourself.
