A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) helps reduce the risk of electric shock by interrupting power when it detects a ground fault. Sun Joe corded-electric pressure washers must be used with the GFCI protection specified in the product manual.

Models Covered
Sun Joe corded-electric pressure washers equipped with a GFCI power cord or requiring a GFCI-protected circuit or outlet.
Power Type
120V AC corded electric, as specified on the unit rating label.
GFCI plug designs and indicator displays can differ by model. Follow the labels on the plug and the instructions in the manual supplied with your pressure washer.
What the GFCI Indicator Means
On models with a power indicator, an illuminated indicator confirms that power is reaching the GFCI after it has been reset. Do not rely on a specific indicator color unless that color is defined in your model’s manual or on the GFCI plug itself.
If the power indicator remains off, do not operate the pressure washer. Unplug it before inspecting the cord, plug, or connections.
How to Reset the GFCI
Inspect the power cord and plug
Confirm that the cord and GFCI plug are dry and undamaged. Do not use the pressure washer if the cord insulation, plug, or GFCI housing is worn, cracked, or damaged.
Connect to the proper outlet
With dry hands, plug the pressure washer into a properly grounded outlet or circuit with GFCI protection. Keep the plug and all electrical connections dry and off the ground.
Press RESET
If the GFCI does not supply power when first connected, press the RESET button until the power indicator illuminates. Do not hold the button for a timed period unless the instructions on your exact GFCI plug specifically require it.
Start the pressure washer
Complete the water-connection and air-purging procedure in the model’s manual. Then switch the pressure washer on and pull the trigger to begin water flow.
If the Indicator Stays Off
- Switch the pressure washer off and unplug it.
- Confirm that the outlet is working and provides the voltage specified on the rating label.
- If an extension cord is connected, remove it and try the pressure washer directly from the outlet.
- Reconnect the GFCI plug and press RESET again.
If the GFCI will not reset or immediately interrupts power again, stop using the pressure washer. Do not bypass, remove, or modify the GFCI, polarized plug, power cord, or outlet.
Extension Cord Guidance
Shop Joe manuals may recommend connecting the pressure washer directly to the outlet. If your model manual permits an extension cord, use only an outdoor-rated cord of the required length and wire gauge, and keep the connection dry and off the ground. Never assume that one extension-cord specification applies to every pressure washer.
Electrical Safety Notes
- Never touch the pressure washer, plug, or outlet with wet hands.
- Do not stand in water while connecting or operating the unit.
- Keep the power cord away from heat, sharp edges, and the spray stream.
- Do not spray electrical equipment, outlets, plugs, or wiring.
- Do not use the pressure washer if the power cord or GFCI is damaged.
