Snow Joe® 20V Cordless Snow Shovel Won’t Start or Stops Working

If your Snow Joe® cordless snow shovel does not turn on or stops during use, follow the steps below. Most issues can be resolved quickly without service.

Before You Begin

For your safety:

• Turn the unit OFF

• Remove the battery

• Wait for all moving parts to stop completely

Never attempt to clear snow or debris while the unit is powered on.

Important: Battery Requirement

This model operates using a 20V ECOSHARP® lithium-ion battery.
The snow shovel will not operate unless the battery is fully inserted and charged.

Issue: Snow Shovel Will Not Turn On

Step 1: Check Battery Installation

• Slide the battery into the battery compartment until it clicks into place

• Make sure there is no gap between the battery and the unit

Step 2: Check Battery Charge

• Press the battery’s charge indicator button

• If one or no lights appear, fully charge the battery before use

Step 3: Allow Battery to Reach Normal Temperature

• Batteries exposed to extreme cold or heat may not operate immediately

• Let the battery sit indoors at room temperature for 30–60 minutes before charging or using

Step 4: Use the Safety Switch Correctly

The snow shovel will only start when both controls are used together:

1. Press and hold the safety switch

2. While holding it, squeeze the ON/OFF trigger

Releasing the safety switch before squeezing the trigger will prevent the unit from starting. This is normal and designed for safety.

Issue: Snow Shovel Starts, Then Stops

• Make sure the battery is fully charged

• Avoid forcing the unit through deep, wet, or compacted snow

• Use steady forward pressure rather than pushing too quickly

The unit may shut off automatically to protect the motor if it becomes overloaded.

Helpful Operating Tips

• Clear snow in shallow passes when possible

• Direct snow away from people, vehicles, and buildings

• Store the battery indoors when not in use

• Remove the battery before storage or adjustments
