Assembly

Fit the wheels
Remove the wheel spacers, nuts, shaft sleeve, and support cover from the wheel axle. Insert the axle into the shredder stand assembly, then reassemble the shaft sleeve and support cover.

Attach both wheels
Remove the wheel cover, place the wheel onto the axle, secure it with the spacer and nut, then press the wheel cover into place. Repeat for the other wheel.

Attach the stand assembly
Turn the main body upside down, insert both ends of the stand assembly into the housing, align the holes, then secure both sides with the supplied washers and screws.

Install the paddle holder and paddle
Stand the unit upright, clip the paddle holder to the stand assembly, then clip the paddle into the holder.
Getting Started

Check the hopper first
Make sure the feed inlet is empty before starting. The unit will not run if the hopper is open or not closed tightly.

Secure the hopper
Turn the hopper locking knob clockwise until the hopper is tightly closed.

Connect the extension cord
Use an approved outdoor extension cord. Make a knot with the appliance cord and extension cord to help prevent accidental disconnection during use.

Start the chipper
Make sure the removable safety switch is in the OFF position, plug the unit in, then push the removable safety switch to ON.

Feed material properly
Insert branches, twigs, and approved yard material through the feeding funnel. Hold branches until they are automatically drawn in.

Use the paddle only
Use the supplied paddle if material needs help moving into the hopper. Never place hands into the hopper while the unit is running.

Avoid overloading
Feed only enough material to prevent blockage. Alternate wilted garden waste or thin twigs with dry branches to help keep the blades clear.

Stop the unit safely
Only switch the unit off after all shredding material has passed through the discharge chute. Push the safety switch to OFF. Remove the safety switch when the machine is not in use.
Maintenance & Care
Clean with a damp cloth and soft brush
Use only a warm damp cloth and a soft brush. Never spray or wash the chipper with water.
Keep ventilation slots clean
Make sure the ventilation slots are clear and free from debris before and after use.
Clean inside the hopper
Unscrew the hopper locking knob counterclockwise, remove the hopper, and clean the cutting blades and discharge area.
Remove clogged sticks or debris
Remove wood sticks or objects that may clog the blades. Inspect the blades for damage before reinstalling the hopper.
Inspect blades regularly
The CJ601E has two reversible blades. Reverse or replace the blades if cutting performance decreases or the blade edges are worn.
Store indoors
Store the chipper in a dry, clean, cool indoor area out of reach of children. Do not store next to corrosive materials like fertilizer or rock salt.
Check extension cord condition
Wipe the extension cord clean and replace it immediately if it is cut or damaged in any way.
Troubleshooting Guide
Only perform the steps described below. If the issue cannot be resolved, contact Shop Joe customer support or an authorized service center.
Possible Causes
- Unit is not plugged into a working outlet
- Extension cord is damaged
- Overload protection has activated
- Hopper is open or not secured
Solutions
- Confirm the unit is plugged into a working receptacle
- Check that the extension cord is not damaged
- Remove chips or blockage, press the reset button, wait one minute, then restart
- Confirm the hopper is secured and the hopper locking knob is tightened
Possible Causes
- Material is jammed in the feed inlet
- Cutting blades are blocked
- Discharge chute is blocked
- Too much material was inserted at once
Solutions
- Turn the unit off and unplug it
- Open the hopper and remove blocked material from the cutting head
- Open the blade cover or discharge chute plate as needed to clear blocked material
- Replace the cover, plate, and hopper before restarting
- Feed less material at one time
Possible Cause
- Blade edges are worn
Solutions
- Unplug the unit before service
- Wear protective gloves
- Reverse the blades if the unused cutting edge is available
- Replace with new CJ601E-RBLD blades if needed
Possible Cause
- Overload protection cut power due to clogging or overload
Solutions
- Push the removable safety switch to OFF
- Unplug the unit
- Clear blocked material
- Wait at least one minute
- Press the reset button, then restart the unit

- Close the hopper fully
