Assembly

Assemble the wheels
Remove the nuts from the wheel axle and remove the shaft sleeve from one side. Insert the axle through the stand assembly, then reinstall the shaft sleeve.

Install the wheels and covers
Attach each wheel to the axle and secure it with the nut. Press the wheel cover into the wheel. Repeat on the other side.

Attach the stand assembly
Turn the main body upside down and insert both ends of the stand assembly into the housing. Align the holes and fasten the screws on both sides.

Install the paddle holder and paddle
Stand the unit upright, clip the paddle holder onto the stand assembly, then clip the paddle into the holder.
Getting Started

Inspect the work area and unit
Operate only in daylight or good artificial light. Keep children, pets, and bystanders away from the work area. Do not use on slopes, uneven ground, rain, or wet conditions.

Check the hopper
Before starting, make sure the feed inlet is empty and the hopper is fully closed.

Lock the hopper
Turn the hopper locking knob clockwise until tight. The unit will not run if the hopper is open or not closed tightly.

Connect the extension cord
Use only an outdoor-rated extension cord. Use 14 AWG up to 25 ft or 12 AWG from 26–50 ft. Do not use an extension cord longer than 50 ft.

Make the cord knot
Secure the appliance cord and extension cord together using the knot method shown in the manual to help prevent accidental disconnection.

Start the chipper
Make sure the removable safety switch is in the OFF position, plug in the unit, then push the removable safety switch to ON.

Feed material safely
Insert approved shredding material into the hopper through the feeding funnel. Use the supplied paddle when needed. Never put hands into the hopper.

Shut down correctly
Only switch off the unit after all material has passed through the discharge chute. This helps prevent jams the next time the shredder starts.
Maintenance & Care
Clean with a damp cloth and soft brush
Use only a warm damp cloth and soft brush. Never spray or wash the unit with water, and do not use detergents or solvents.
Keep ventilation slots clear
Make sure ventilation slots stay clean and free from debris to help prevent overheating.
Clean the blades and discharge area
Open the hopper by turning the hopper locking knob counterclockwise. Remove sticks, chips, or objects that may clog the blades or discharge area.
Inspect the blades
Check blade condition after cleaning. If cutting performance drops, reverse the blades or replace them with the specified replacement blade.
Replace or reverse blades safely
Stop the motor, unplug the unit, open the hopper, secure the cutting head from rotating, remove the blade bolts with the hex key, then reverse or replace the blade.
Store indoors
Store the unit indoors in a dry, clean, cool area out of children’s reach. Do not store near corrosive materials such as fertilizer or rock salt.
Troubleshooting Guide
Only perform the steps described below. If the issue cannot be resolved, contact Shop Joe customer support or an authorized service center.
Possible Causes
- Unit is not plugged into a working outlet
- Extension cord is damaged
- Overload protection has responded
- Hopper is open or not closed tightly
- Safety switch is not seated properly
Solutions
- Check that the unit is plugged into a working outlet
- Inspect and replace damaged extension cord
- Remove chips, press the reset button, wait 1 minute, then restart
- Close the hopper and tighten the locking knob clockwise
- Remove and reinsert the safety switch until seated, then push to ON
Possible Causes
- Safety switch is not fully seated
- Overload protection triggered by extended use or blockage
- Hopper latch connection is loose
Solutions
- Remove and firmly reinsert the safety switch until it clicks into place
- Power off, clear blockage, wait at least 1 minute, press reset, and restart
- Check that the hopper is fully closed and the locking knob is tightened clockwise

- Material jammed in the feed inlet
- Cutting blades are blocked
- Discharge chute is blocked
Solutions
- Turn off and unplug the unit
- Open the hopper and remove blocked material
- Open the blade cover if needed, clear material, and reinstall cover and hopper
- Clear blocked material from the discharge chute before restarting

- Reverse the blades to use the other edge or replace with new blades, model CJ601E-RBLD

- Overload protection triggered by jam or overload
- Repeated rapid start/stop cycling overheated the motor
Solutions
- Turn off, clear blockage, press reset, wait 1 minute, and restart
- Allow unit to cool at least 5 minutes before restarting
