Before assembly: Compare the contents with the packing list supplied with your order. Bundle contents may differ from the core-unit carton described in an earlier operator’s manual.
Assembly
- Install the handle. Slide the handle into position and secure it with the supplied screws.
- Attach the holders. Install the hose holder, spray-wand protector, trigger-gun holder, and power-cord holder with the supplied screws.
- Connect the spray wand. Push the wand firmly into the trigger gun and twist until the connection locks.
- Connect the high-pressure hose. Attach one end to the trigger gun and the other to the pressure washer’s water outlet. Tighten both connections securely.
- Connect the garden hose adapter. Inspect and clean the inlet filter, install the adapter, then connect a garden hose to the water inlet.
Safety: Complete assembly with the unit switched off and unplugged. Never connect the machine to hot water, and never operate it without an adequate water supply.
Getting Started and Operation
- Place the unit securely. Set it upright on a stable, level surface near the water supply and outdoor-rated power source.
- Connect the water supply. Attach the garden hose, turn the faucet fully on, release the trigger safety lock, and squeeze the trigger until water flows steadily and trapped air is cleared.
- Install a spray tip. Switch the unit off, engage the trigger lock, pull back the quick-connect collar, insert the selected tip, and release the collar. Tug the tip to confirm it is locked.
- Test the GFCI. Plug the power cord directly into a grounded outlet. Press the GFCI test button, confirm power is interrupted, then press reset. Do not use the washer if the GFCI test fails.
- Start cleaning. Release the trigger lock, hold the trigger gun firmly with both hands, squeeze the trigger, and switch the unit on. Begin at least 12 inches from the surface and test an inconspicuous area first.
- Pause safely. For breaks of five minutes or longer, engage the trigger lock, switch the unit off, and unplug it.
Selecting and Changing Spray Tips
The exact-unit manual identifies 0°, 15°, and 40° tips; the current BDL-A0313 bundle page also lists a 25° tip. Start with the widest suitable pattern, keep the nozzle moving, and test the surface before cleaning a larger area. The narrow 0° jet is highly concentrated and can damage soft or painted surfaces.
Never change a tip while the system is pressurized. Switch the unit off, unplug it, shut off the water, squeeze the trigger to release pressure, and engage the trigger lock first.
Using the Foam Cannon
- Use only detergent specifically formulated for pressure washers. Prepare it according to the detergent manufacturer’s directions.
- Fill the foam-cannon bottle without overfilling, then connect it securely to the trigger gun.
- Apply detergent from the bottom upward to a dry surface. Allow it to work briefly, but do not let it dry.
- Remove the foam cannon, install a suitable spray tip, and rinse from the top downward.
- After use, run clean water through the foam cannon to prevent residue buildup.
Do not use household detergent, bleach, acids, alkalis, solvents, flammable liquids, or industrial-grade cleaning solutions in the pressure washer.
Shutting Down
- Switch the pressure washer off and unplug the power cord.
- Turn off the water supply.
- Squeeze the trigger until all residual pressure is released.
- Engage the trigger lock, then disconnect and drain the hoses.
Maintenance, Care, and Storage
- Switch off, unplug, shut off the water, and release system pressure before inspection or cleaning.
- Inspect the power cord, GFCI, trigger gun, spray wand, fittings, and high-pressure hose before each use. Do not use damaged parts.
- Keep the water-inlet filter clean. Remove debris gently and reinstall the filter before connecting the hose.
- If a nozzle becomes clogged, use the supplied needle clean-out tool only after the unit is off, unplugged, depressurized, and the nozzle is removed. Flush the nozzle with water afterward.
- Store the washer dry, upright, and indoors where the temperature remains above 32°F (0°C). Keep the hose free of kinks.
- Before freezing conditions, drain the unit and use a noncorrosive, nontoxic pressure-washer pump protector or antifreeze according to its instructions. Flush with clear water before the next use.
Troubleshooting
Machine Refuses to Start
Possible Causes
- No power at the outlet, a faulty outlet, or the GFCI has tripped.
- An extension cord is unsuitable.
- The unit has overheated.
Solutions
- Confirm the plug is fully inserted, test the outlet with another device, and reset the GFCI.
- Plug directly into the outlet when possible. If an extension cord is necessary, use no more than 25 ft of 14-gauge outdoor cord with watertight connections.
- Switch the unit off and allow it to cool before restarting.
Pressure Fluctuates
Possible Causes
- Air is entering the system.
- The water supply is inadequate.
- The inlet filter or nozzle is blocked.
Solutions
- Check hose connections and purge air by running water through the gun before startup.
- Open the faucet fully and make sure the supply hose is not kinked.
- Clean the inlet filter and nozzle as described under Maintenance.
Machine Stops During Use
Possible Causes
- The fuse or GFCI has tripped.
- The supply voltage is incorrect.
- The thermal sensor has activated.
- The nozzle is partly blocked.
Solutions
- Switch off, unplug, inspect the circuit and nozzle, and allow the unit to cool.
- Confirm the outlet supplies the voltage shown on the rating label.
- Reset the GFCI only after the cause has been checked.
Fuse Blows
Possible Cause
The circuit amperage is too low.
Solution
Use a circuit capable of supporting the washer’s 13-amp load and avoid operating other high-draw equipment on the same circuit.
Machine Pulsates
Possible Causes
- Air is trapped in the inlet hose or pump.
- The water supply is inadequate.
- The nozzle or inlet filter is partly blocked.
- The garden hose is kinked.
Solutions
- Turn off the washer and squeeze the trigger until a steady stream flows.
- Open the faucet fully, straighten the hose, and clean the filter and nozzle.
Machine Starts and Stops by Itself
Possible Cause
A leak or internal pressure-system issue may be causing the motor to cycle.
Solution
Inspect external hose and fitting connections for leaks. If cycling continues, stop using the unit and contact Snow Joe + Sun Joe customer support; do not open or repair the pump internally.
Machine Runs but No Water Comes Out
Possible Causes
- The water supply is disconnected or frozen.
- The inlet filter is blocked.
- The nozzle is blocked.
Solutions
- Confirm the faucet is on and the supply hose is connected and free of kinks.
- Allow any frozen water to thaw completely before use.
- Clean the inlet filter and nozzle according to the maintenance instructions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the motor stop when I release the trigger?
This is normal Total Stop System operation. The pump shuts off when the trigger is released and restarts when the trigger is squeezed.
Can I connect the pressure washer to hot water?
No. Use cold water only. Inlet water must not exceed 104°F (40°C).
Can I use an extension cord?
Direct connection to a grounded outlet is preferred. If an extension cord is necessary, the manual limits it to 25 ft, for a maximum combined cord length of 60 ft, and requires at least 14-gauge outdoor-rated cable with watertight connections.
Which cleaning solutions can I use?
Use only detergents made specifically for pressure washers and follow the detergent maker’s dilution instructions. Do not use bleach, solvents, acids, alkalis, flammable liquids, household detergents, or industrial solutions.
How should I prepare the washer for winter storage?
Drain the unit completely and store it indoors above 32°F (0°C). A noncorrosive, nontoxic pressure-washer pump protector or antifreeze may be used as directed; flush the system with clear water before using it again.
