- Auxiliary handle assembly (shaft, adapter and grip)
- Blade protector and rubber retaining strap
- Four stainless steel blades (two spares)
- Eight blade fasteners (four spares)
- Wrench
- 5 mm hex key
- 4 mm hex key
- Center pilot bit
Not included: Cordless drill, power auger drive, drill battery, and drill charger. The manual specifies that a compatible power tool must be purchased separately.
Before You Begin
Safety: Wear cut-resistant gloves when handling blades and the center pilot bit. Disconnect the drill battery or switch off the powerhead before assembling, adjusting, or inspecting the auger. Check that the ice is safe before entering or drilling.
- Use the auger only for ice, not soil, wood, metal, or concrete.
- Use a cordless drill with a 1/2-inch chuck; the manual recommends 18V or higher, at least 725 in-lbs (82 Nm) torque, and a 4 Ah or larger battery.
- Use DRILL mode and LOW gear / high torque. Do not use an impact driver or hammer mode.
- Inspect the auger, shaft, blade holder, center pilot bit, and fasteners for damage or looseness.
Assembly
Follow the manual’s assembly order. Keep the battery disconnected throughout.
- Install the center pilot bit. Remove the blade holder assembly. Thread the pilot bit into the center hole at the bottom of the auger shaft by hand; tighten securely without over-tightening and check that it is straight.
- Install both blades. Position each blade underneath the blade holder assembly, align the holes, insert blade fasteners, and tighten with the supplied 4 mm hex key. Check for wobble.
- Attach the blade holder assembly. Align the holes on the auger base and blade holder. Insert the blade holder screw, attach the nut, and secure with the supplied wrench and hex key. Do not over-tighten.
- Install the auxiliary handle for cordless-drill use. Remove the shaft lock knob and pre-installed shaft, position the auxiliary handle over the opening, reinstall the knob, and tighten securely. For a powerhead with its own handles, do not install this auxiliary handle unless its manufacturer instructs otherwise.
- Connect the compatible drive. Secure the auger shaft in the drill chuck or approved powerhead connection, and verify that all components are tight before installing the battery or starting the drive.
Safety: Never operate a cordless drill without the auger’s auxiliary handle. Use two hands: one on the drill and one on the auxiliary handle. For powerhead use, hold both powerhead handles.
Getting Started / Operation
- Check ice conditions. Verify that the ice is safe and choose the drilling location. Maintain stable footing.
- Confirm the setup. Check the pilot bit, blades, shaft connection, and auxiliary handle as applicable. Set a cordless drill to DRILL mode and LOW gear.
- Position the auger. Set it vertically on the ice at the desired location.
- Hold with both hands. Hold the cordless drill and auxiliary handle, or both powerhead handles.
- Begin drilling. Start at low speed according to the power tool’s instructions. Apply steady, even pressure without forcing the blades.
- Clear ice shavings. Periodically lift and lower the auger to clear shavings from the hole.
- Stop before removing. Release the trigger or throttle, wait for all rotation to stop, then lift the auger from the hole.
- Power down. Remove the drill battery or shut off the powerhead after use.
Safety: Keep hands and clothing away from rotating parts. If you lose control, release the trigger or throttle immediately. Never stand on a bucket, chair, or other object while drilling.
Maintenance, Blade Care & Storage
- After each use: Wipe moisture, ice, and debris from the auger shaft, blade holder, and center pilot bit.
- Inspect the blades: Replace damaged or dull blades, and always replace both blades together.
- Check fasteners: Inspect blade fasteners, the blade holder nut and screw, and the center pilot bit for tightness.
- Center pilot bit: Replace it if bent, dull, or damaged. The manual allows a light coat of lubricant on its threads before reinstallation.
- Off-season storage: Clean and dry the auger; apply a light coat of WD-40 or similar lubricant (not included) to blades, pilot bit, and exposed metal parts to help prevent rust.
- Protect the blades: Fit the blade protector and rubber retaining strap before storage or transport. Store dry, out of children’s reach.
Safety: Do not store or transport the auger with exposed blades. Always wear cut-resistant gloves for blade or pilot-bit maintenance.
Troubleshooting
Auger Does Not Cut or Cuts Slowly
Recommended Checks
- Replace dull or damaged blades as a pair and verify that they are installed underneath the blade holder.
- Set the drill to DRILL mode and LOW gear / high torque.
- Check the center pilot bit and confirm that the drill meets the manual’s torque recommendation.
- For ice too thick for the auger, use an appropriately longer bit or suitable equipment.
Auger Spins but Does Not Penetrate Ice
Recommended Checks
- Re-tighten the drill chuck and make sure the shaft is fully inserted.
- Check for upside-down blades and reinstall correctly.
- Reduce excessive downward pressure.
Auger Wobbles or Vibrates
Recommended Checks
- Tighten the blade holder nut and screw and check blade seating.
- Inspect and tighten or replace a bent or loose center pilot bit.
- Re-tighten the chuck; consult the drill manufacturer if its jaws are worn.
Auger Binds or Stalls
Recommended Checks
- Use steady pressure rather than forcing the auger.
- Periodically lift and lower the auger to clear ice shavings.
- Replace dull blades and use LOW gear with a suitable high-torque drill.
Chuck Slips on Auger Shaft
Recommended Checks
- Tighten the chuck; clean the shaft and inspect for wear.
- Confirm a 1/2-inch (13 mm) chuck is being used.
- Consult the drill manufacturer if the chuck is damaged.
Drill Overheats or Shuts Down
Recommended Checks
- Reduce downward pressure and use LOW gear.
- Warm or recharge a cold or depleted drill battery.
- Let the drill cool and follow the drill manufacturer’s duty-cycle instructions.
Auxiliary Handle Is Loose
Recommended Checks
- Tighten the shaft lock knob.
- Contact Customer Care for damaged threads or replacement parts.
- Remove the auxiliary handle when using a powerhead equipped with its own handles.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I turn the AGR100M by hand?
No. The operator’s manual explicitly says the auger must be powered by a compatible cordless drill or power auger drive. Do not attempt manual operation.
Is a drill or powerhead included?
No. The drill or powerhead, and its battery and charger, are sold separately.
What drill do I need?
Use a compatible drill with a 1/2-inch (13 mm) chuck. The manual recommends 18V or higher, a brushless motor, at least 725 in-lbs (82 Nm) torque, and a 4 Ah or larger lithium-ion battery.
Can I use hammer or impact mode?
No. Use DRILL mode only, with LOW gear / high torque. Do not use an impact driver.
Are the blades nylon?
No. The manual identifies stainless steel blades and a nylon auger flight.
How many blades are included?
Four blades are included: two for installation and two spares. Replace both cutting blades together.
What size hole does it drill?
The auger is designed for 6-inch (150 mm) diameter ice holes.
Is the auxiliary handle required?
Yes, when operating with a cordless drill. A powerhead with its own handles normally does not use the auger’s auxiliary handle.
How should I store the auger?
Clean and dry it, protect exposed metal as described in the manual, and install the blade protector with the rubber retaining strap. Store in a dry location away from children.
What is the warranty?
The manual advertises a 2-year warranty and mentions an additional 90 days of bonus coverage through registration, subject to the published warranty terms.
