Before You Begin
Unpack your pruning saw and check that the following items are included:
- Pruning saw with the chain and guide bar pre-assembled
- Cutting bar sheath, installed over the bar and chain
- Hex key wrench, stored in the tool
- 0.7 fl oz (20 mL) bottle of lubrication oil
- 24V iON+ lithium-ion battery and compatible charger
- Operator’s manual with registration card
Safety first: Keep the battery removed during all inspections, adjustments, and lubrication. Wear protective gloves when handling the bar or chain. Do not operate the saw if any components are loose, damaged, or missing. Read the operator’s manual before use.
Prepare Your Pruning Saw
-
Inspect the Pre-Assembled Bar and Chain
With the battery removed, check that the guide bar and chain are installed, undamaged, and securely fastened. Check that the handle and guards are clean, dry, and secure.
-
Check Chain Tension
With protective gloves on, verify that the cold chain has no slack beneath the guide bar and is snug but can still be moved by hand without binding. If adjustment is needed, slightly loosen the end cover knob, then use the supplied hex key to turn the chain adjustment screw clockwise to tighten or counterclockwise to loosen. Retighten the end cover knob and check that the chain moves smoothly. See Adjusting the Chain Tension (manual, Figures 3–5).
-
Lubricate the Bar and Chain
With the battery still removed, clean the guide bar and chain with a soft brush. Apply a suitable bar and chain oil between the chain and guide bar. The operator’s manual calls for additional lubrication approximately every 30 minutes of operation; this saw does not have an automatic oiling system.
-
Charge the Battery
Charge the included 24V iON+ battery with its compatible charger following the operator’s manual. The manual indicates a maximum charge time of approximately 5 hours. Unplug the charger once charging is complete.
-
Complete the Pre-Use Checks
Confirm the switch and safety lock move freely, the ventilation openings are clear, and the chain tension and lubrication are correct. Only install the battery when you are ready to operate the saw safely.
Final Assembly Check
No separate bar-and-chain assembly is required out of the box. The saw arrives pre-assembled, but chain tension, lubrication, and all safety checks must be completed before use. Refer to the manual’s Break-in Time for New Chains instructions for initial operation.
