Start Here: Before First Use
Battery Charging

Remove the battery
Press the push lock button on the battery and pull the battery pack out of the saw.

Connect the charger
Confirm the charger voltage matches the outlet. Plug the charger adapter into an AC outlet, then connect the charger plug to the battery charge socket.

Watch the charging indicator
The charger light turns red while charging and green when fully charged. The battery indicator LEDs blink and illuminate one by one during charging.

Unplug after charging
Allow up to 8 hours for the X20-SAW-TV1 battery, 5–6 hours for the X20-SAW-4A battery, 4–5 hours for each X20-SAW-2AX2 battery, and up to 8 hours for each BDL-A0310 battery. Two-battery kits use the included single-battery charger, so charge one battery pack at a time. Unplug the charger from the outlet first, then disconnect it from the battery.
Chain Oil + Lubrication

Use bar and chain oil only
Use good-quality bar and chain oil designed for chain saws. Do not use engine oil, mineral oil, contaminated oil, or low-quality oil.

Fill before use
Remove the oil tank cap and add oil to about 1 cm from the rim of the filler.

Oil during operation
Press the clear oil pump 2–3 times after the saw has been used for 5–8 minutes.

Check oil delivery
With the bar and chain installed, start the saw and confirm oil is being delivered to the chain before continuing work.
Adjusting Chain Tension

Loosen the end cover
Make sure the saw is shut off and the battery is removed. Loosen the chain/sprocket end cover slightly by turning the end cover knob counterclockwise.

Adjust the chain
Turn the cover screw until there is only about a 0.3 cm gap when pulling the chain. The chain should be snug but still able to rotate by hand without binding.

Tighten the cover
Use the wrench to tighten the cover nut clockwise, then confirm the chain is still properly seated in the guide bar groove.
Getting Started

Complete the daily checklist
Inspect the chain, guide bar, motor housing, screws, ventilation slots, safety lock button, and On/Off switch before each work session.

Secure the workpiece
Clamp loose wood when possible. Do not hold the workpiece with your hand or foot while cutting.

Insert the battery
Slide the battery into the compartment until it clicks securely into place.

Start the saw
Make sure the chain is not touching anything. Hold the saw firmly, press the safety lock button, then squeeze the On/Off switch.

Let the chain do the work
Allow the chain to reach full speed before entering the cut. Use light downward pressure and keep the saw running through the cut.

Stop safely
Release the On/Off switch and wait for the chain to stop completely before removing the saw from the cut, setting it down, or inspecting it.
Cutting Tips
Cut wood only
Do not use the saw to cut plastic, masonry, metal, non-wood building materials, vines, or small underbrush.
Stay within capacity
The saw is designed for limbs and smaller logs up to 5 inches in diameter, depending on wood type.
Watch for spring back
Use caution when cutting limbs under tension. Spring-loaded wood can move suddenly when released.
Avoid kickback
Do not let the guide bar tip contact any object. Keep a firm grip with your thumb and fingers wrapped around the handle.
Break in new chains
After installing a new chain, run the saw idle for about 5 minutes, remove the battery, recheck tension, then make only easy cuts for about 30 minutes.
Maintenance + Care
Clean after each use
Use a cloth, paintbrush, or brush to remove dust and wood splinters. Keep ventilation slots free from sawdust and debris.
Clean the sprocket area
Use a brush or compressed air to clean the sprocket area. Do not allow liquid inside the motor housing.
Check chain tension often
Chains stretch during use, especially during the first period of use or after replacement. Never work with a loose chain.
Inspect the guide bar
Replace the guide bar if it is bent, cracked, broken, has spread rails, or has wear inside the rails that allows the chain to lay sideways.
Inspect the sprocket
Replace the sprocket when wear exceeds 0.5 mm. Do not mount a new chain on a worn sprocket or a worn chain on a new sprocket.
Store safely
Install the guide bar cover and store the saw indoors in a dry, high, or locked place out of children’s reach.
Troubleshooting Guide
Remove the battery before inspecting, cleaning, adjusting, or performing maintenance. Only perform the checks below.
Saw Will Not Start
Possible Causes
- Battery is not fully inserted or locked in place
- Battery is discharged
- Safety lock button was not engaged before squeezing the switch
- Battery protective cutoff was triggered by overload or overheating
Solutions
- Remove and reinsert the battery until it clicks securely
- Charge the X20-SAW-TV1 battery for up to 8 hours; charge the X20-SAW-4A battery for 5–6 hours; charge each X20-SAW-2AX2 battery for 4–5 hours; or charge each BDL-A0310 battery for up to 8 hours. Charge one battery pack at a time with the included charger.
- Press and hold the safety lock button, then squeeze the On/Off switch
- Do not repeatedly press the switch if cutoff activates; remove the battery and let the unit cool
Battery Drains Quickly
Possible Causes
- Battery is aged or deeply discharged
- Wood exceeds the 6-inch maximum cutting thickness
- Chain is dull or improperly tensioned
- Battery was stored in extreme heat or cold
Solutions
- Recharge the battery fully before use
- Stay within the 6-inch cutting capacity
- Sharpen or replace the chain and adjust tension
- Store the battery around room temperature and at least 40% charged
Chain Does Not Move or Cuts Poorly
Possible Causes
- Chain tension is too loose or too tight
- Chain is installed in the wrong direction
- Chain is dull
- Chain is not lubricated
Solutions
- Remove the battery and adjust chain tension
- Reinstall the chain so sharp teeth face the direction of chain rotation shown on the guide bar
- Sharpen or replace with X20-SAW-6CHAINX2
- Fill the oil tank and press the oil pump every 5–8 minutes during use
Chain Comes Off the Guide Bar
Possible Causes
- Chain tension is too loose
- Guide bar is bent, worn, or has spread rails
- End cover knob was not tightened after adjustment
Solutions
- Remove the battery and reseat the chain on the sprocket and bar groove
- Adjust chain tension and tighten the end cover knob securely
- Replace the guide bar if damaged
Excessive Vibration
Possible Causes
- Chain is installed backwards
- Chain tension is incorrect
- Guide bar or sprocket is worn or damaged
- Screws or end cover knob are loose
Solutions
- Stop immediately and remove the battery
- Confirm chain direction and tension
- Inspect the guide bar and sprocket
- Tighten all screws and the end cover knob before use
Motor Overheats or Shuts Off
Possible Causes
- Ventilation slots are clogged
- Cutting material exceeds 6 inches
- Motor was restarted too quickly
- Battery overload cutoff activated
Solutions
- Stop, remove the battery, and clean the ventilation slots
- Do not exceed the 6-inch cutting capacity
- Wait at least 5 seconds before restarting
- Allow the saw and battery to cool completely before reuse
Chain or Bar Is Not Lubricated
Possible Causes
- Oil tank is empty
- Oil pump is not being pressed
- Oil tank filter may be clogged from poor-quality oil
Solutions
- Fill with good-quality bar and chain oil to 1 cm from the rim
- Press the oil pump 2–3 times every 5–8 minutes during use
- Do not use engine oil, mineral oil, or contaminated oil
Kickback Occurs
Possible Causes
- Guide bar tip contacted an object
- Wood closed in and pinched the chain
- Cutting above shoulder height or overreaching
- Loose grip during operation
Solutions
- Avoid contact between the guide bar tip and any object
- Plan cuts so wood does not close on the chain
- Do not cut above shoulder height
- Maintain a firm grip with your thumb and fingers around the handle
Battery Will Not Charge
Possible Causes
- Charger is connected to the wrong voltage
- Battery or charger is damaged
- Battery temperature is outside 41°F–105°F
- Battery has not been charged in more than 12 months
Solutions
- Use a 100–240V AC outlet matching charger requirements
- Do not use damaged batteries or chargers
- Let hot batteries cool to room temperature before charging
- Replace a battery that may be damaged from exhaustive discharge
